The following policies are implemented during the University of North Carolina basketball season for building security and patron safety:
CLEAR BAG POLICY:The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI released a joint Homeland Security note to raise security awareness in sport and entertainment venues.The University of North Carolina Department of Athletics has implemented a clear bag policy at KenanStadium andthe Dean E. Smith Center for the 2017-18 academic year. Full details on the policy are available here.
The policyis designed to reduce wait times for fans entering KenanStadim andthe Smith Center and put UNC in line with most college and professional venues in terms of fan safety measures.
Carolina Athletics encourages fans to leave all bags at home, but the following items will be allowed into KenanStadium andthe Smith Center:
• Any clear plastic or vinyl bag no larger than 12" x 6" x 12", including gallon freezer bags.
• Small clutch purses no larger than 4.5" x 6.5".
• Necessary medical items following inspection at entry gates.
Prohibited items include, but are not limited to, the following: purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, diaper bags, fanny packs, luggage of any kind, computer bags and camera bags.
Fans are still allowed to carry items such as phones, binoculars and cameras into the arena.
DOORS: The doors to the Smith Center open 90 minutes prior to tip-off.
PROHIBITED ITEMS: All guests and their belongings are subject to screening by entry personnel. The following items are prohibited in the arena: alcoholic beverages, artificial noisemakers, baby seats, backpacks or large bags, balloons, banners and signs, beach balls, coolers or containers, duffel bags, explosives, fireworks, folding chairs, food and beverages, illegal drugs, laser pointers, pets (except service animals), large strollers, weapons of any kind, any other item that in the judgment of game management staff poses a safety hazard or detracts from the ability of others to enjoy the event. Leave all items at home or in your vehicle. No items will be checked in.
CAMERA POLICY: Point-and-shoot cameras are permitted at the Smith Center; however, flash photography is prohibited during game play. Video cameras may only be used during pre-game and halftime.
NO RE-ENTRY: Re-entry on an already scanned ticket is prohibited.
NO SMOKING: The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill prohibits smoking in buildings and areas controlled by the University. This means no smoking in or around the Smith Center.
HOURS OF OPERATION: The Smith Center is closed to the public on weekday event days in order to secure the arena for each event. Additionally, the facility is closed to the public on weekends and during practice times.
Disability Seating: Seating for patrons with disabilities is available on game day at Entry B of the Dean E. Smith Center.
